Louise Boutin was 1 of the nine members of the 2013 Ascent for Alzheimer's team that has now stood on what must feel like the top of the world, at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. They reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro at 19,340 feet on Wednesday, Oct. 2,2013 after climbing for 6 days! "Oh my Gawd! What an experience. I have never pushed myself that hard in my life! "I'm safe and sound. I have never pushed myself this far! We walk for at least 8-9 hours each day and summit night we had a rare snowfall. We left at 11 and the storm had abated. The stars were out. Our Tanzanian guides are awesome! Not sure how they find the path. Went up and up relentlesly for hours in the cold. The sun came up and it was magic A surge of adrenaline shot through the group. At the end 4 made it up to the very top 8 hours later. Then Alexa ..only 24 years old, and I ran down in 1:30 hrs! We then had to hike 3 hrs to our next camp over rocks! We now have an 8 hr hike back out to the hotel. Will see monkeys on the way! "
